Causation to effect to quantum

Expert Analysis & Opinion

Whether for Litigation, Arbitration, Mediation or even inital claim submittal, the assembly and presentation of your claim and its quantum should be prepared with causation and effect clearly traced and demomonstrated. This realistic quantum must be paired with a clear and concise narrative that lays out "what", "why" and "how much" clearly, and in a way that explains both the issues and the analysis to a non-technical audience.

Delay

"The Project took longer... We were on site for more time than planned... we were delayed!"

We investigate the events with the available documentation: gantt charts, daily records, progress reports and e-mails. We can use the information to identify key events in the project, and examine what impact that had to the parties through Critical Path analysis, comparison of planned to actual durations, starts and ends. We answer what was the effect, and how much did it cost?

Disruption

"We were unable to complete the work in the planned amount of hours because the site conditions were not as promised"

Measured Mile analysis is the Gold Standard for this kind of claim, but often the information just isn't there.  Or there was no unimpacted period.

Earned Value Analysis, Comparison to other projects or to Industry Averages are other methods to use, but they all come back to the same idea - the site conditions were not as promised, and this had an impact on the work. We can show how much.

Valuation

"The work was done, with changes but we can't agree on what that's worth"

Valuation of the work is often important when the scope changes, or rework or repair is required. There are many ways to calculate it, but in the end you have to measure what was done, and put a price on it. We start with project specific data wherever its available, supplemented with published data and our own in-house data and expertise.

Facilitated Lessons Learned

Failure is a great teacher, if you listen to it. We all make mistakes and miss opportunities.
But why repeat the mistakes of others, or let them repeat ours? Lessons Learned sessions are a structured way to capture the hard won wisdom of your team, and make sure that wisdom is put in front of other members who can learn and apply those lessons going forward.
We can organize and facilitate sessions to give your team the chance to share their wisdom with each other, and tease out the important details.

Work Process Consulting

Your company estimates and wins jobs. You put people to work. How well do you measure your progress? How efficiently do you spend labour?
Small jobs can be managed on paper and in your head, but larger jobs benefit from a clearer understanding of where you are in the job at all times. A lot of people think that requires a lot of people tracking the work, much like the biggest general contractors do. In fact, good progress tracking can be implemented in small and medium jobs by tailoring what's tracked to the size of the job, and leveraging information you already have.
Let us help you find the easiest way to track your progress, by enhancing what you're already doing.
